Granada, triangular earrings in sterling silver and garnet, January birthstone

They are made of sterling silver (925) made by hand in my workshop.

Two garnet cabochons are set on sterling silver hammered triangles. They are very modern and have a timeless style.

This is a custom order highlighting garnet, the birthstone of January.

I named this pair of earrings, Granada, Spanish meaning pomegranate. That is the color of garnet cabochons they took that name. Their purple color approximates this magical and coveted fruit that is found in many myths and stories, especially in the Mediterranean.

In ancient Greece, this fruit belonged to the gods of the underworld, Hades and Persephone. Zeus decided that if Persephone had not eaten into hell, she could join her mother Demeter. Hades then forced her to eat the pomegranate so that she is forced to spend half the year with him.
Generally, the pomegranate is a symbol of life and fertility, but it also occurs as a symbol of power, blood, death and sexuality. For example in Mesopotamia, the pomegranate is a symbol of sex and reproduction.

They measure 2 x 1.5 cm long.

The ear wires are also hand forged by myself in sterling silver and soldered on the back. They have been polished. Shiny finish.
