Tonina, Mayan fresco pendant in sterling silver and chrysoprase

This pendant was inspired by the Monument 122 of the archeological site of Maya Tonina in Mexico. It represents the king of the Palenque site whose name was Kan Xul II (son of Pakal), lying down showing his submission, after his defeat in front of Tonina, and his capture in the year 711.

It also shows a beautiful deep green chrysoprase which color is linked to water in the Maya symbols in Mexico.

Tonina is one of my favorite archeological site in Mexico. It is a small site located near Ocosingo in the state of Chiapas. It is known for its victory against Palenque, recorded by the stele that was used to make this sterling silver pendant. There are not so many tourists on this site and you can visit the pyramids quite freely without being annoyed. The architecture was well developed. The site is on an artificial hill of 80 meters high: 13 temples, 8 palaces and other buildings occupy the side of this hill. I advise you to visit this Maya archeological site and to take the time to discover its stone and stucco sculptures that are very well preserved.

Dimensions: 5 x 2 cm (1.968 x 0.787 inches).
