Diag, mexican rabbit earrings in sterling silver

The Diag earrings celebrate Mexican craftsmanship and animal symbolism in Pre-Hispanic cultures. They are part of the Jicara on Silver collection, inspired by the motifs carved on jícaras (gourds), a traditional art from Oaxaca where nature and indigenous cosmogony take form through sculpture and painting. By transposing this craft onto metal, we preserve a rich visual and cultural heritage while reinterpreting it with a contemporary approach.

The Diag earrings are adorned with stylized rabbits, accompanied by elements referencing Mexican culture. In Zapotec cosmology, the dominant Pre-Hispanic ethnic group in the central valleys of Oaxaca, the rabbit symbolizes agility and cleverness. It is associated with the search for peace and refuge, but also with humility and hard work. Although a small animal, the rabbit embodies tenacity and determination—qualities essential for its survival in nature. For indigenous peoples, it serves as a lesson in perseverance, illustrating how intelligence and adaptation allow one to overcome challenges.

The name Diag comes from the Zapotec language and means "rabbit," honoring this emblematic animal and the traditions associated with it.
