Blowfish, fugu fish ring in silver and glass

The Blowfish Ring was born from an unusual glass cabochon: a vintage piece originally meant to serve as the eye of a teddy bear. This delicate pale green cabochon, marked with a deep black iris, seemed to call for an equally unique creation. From this gaze rooted in the past emerged a fantastical creature with aquatic, dreamlike allure.

We envisioned a whimsical fish, freely inspired by the enchanting universe of Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki. The cabochon becomes both the eye and the body of the fish, set into a silver plate that follows its silhouette. All around, a multitude of sculpted details adds depth and a lifelike quality to the piece, further enhanced by an oxidized patina with subtle marine tones.

The band is made from twisted silver wire, evoking ocean currents or the graceful, unpredictable movements of a school of fish. It gives the ring a fluid, organic dynamic.

The blowfish, also known as the pufferfish or fugu (from the Japanese takifugu), is a fascinating creature. With its unique ability to inflate itself with water or air when threatened, it takes on a spherical, almost comical shape. Yet behind this seemingly harmless appearance lies a darker truth: the fugu carries a powerful toxin, tetrodotoxin, lethal in even minuscule doses.

In Japan, it symbolizes both danger and refinement. Its consumption, strictly regulated, is a rare culinary ritual entrusted only to specially trained and licensed chefs. The fugu thus embodies the duality between apparent gentleness and inner power, between beauty and peril—just like this ring, which combines whimsy, craftsmanship, and mystery.
