Sayap, dragon wing pendant in silver and Mexican crazy lace agate

The "Sayap" pendant is built around a stunning drop-shaped cabochon of Mexican crazy lace agate. This mesmerizing stone displays a spectacular tangle of swirling lines and vivid colors—cream, white, brown, red, orange, blue, black… A true mineral kaleidoscope, typical of this agate found in northern Mexico and formed millions of years ago through silica deposits in rock cavities.

Its intricate pattern evokes the wings of a strange and fascinating creature: the Draco volans. This Southeast Asian gliding lizard, often nicknamed the “flying dragon,” can glide between trees using rib-extended membranes covered in brightly colored markings. These natural patterns, as unexpected and varied as those of the agate, echo the mineral’s vivid movement and color, creating a striking visual and symbolic link between stone and creature.

When viewed horizontally, the agate is set on a silver base that follows its contours. The upper edge of the pendant mirrors the gentle curve of the cabochon, evoking the silhouette of an outstretched wing. Along the lower edge, the silver plate extends slightly beyond the stone to form a delicately jagged border, like the stylized outline of a fantastical wing. The back of the pendant is pierced with circular openings to let light pass through the stone, enhancing the full depth and complexity of its patterns.

We named this piece “Sayap,” the Indonesian word for “wing,” in tribute to the Draco volans and to the tropical regions of Asia where dragon legends still seem to breathe through the living forest.
