The Ollin necklace represents a symbol originating from the Aztec civilization, a great culture of pre-Hispanic Mexico.
The word "Ollin" means "movement" and "quake," fundamental concepts in the Aztec worldview. For them, movement is essential as it brings order to chaos, organizing the different cycles of nature. This dynamism is considered the vital force that underpins the universe, enabling harmony and the continuity of life.
This symbol is present in the Aztec calendar (also known as the Tonalpohualli), where Ollin represents the 17th day of the 20-day cycle. Each day of the Aztec calendar is associated with a specific energy and a set of deities that influence daily events. Ollin, in particular, is often linked to significant transformations and moments of change.
The Ollin necklace is a tangible connection to this rich history and ancient beliefs. By wearing this necklace, one carries a symbol of strength, perpetual movement, and harmony with natural cycles.
For a more elaborate representation of the Aztec concept of movement, you can explore the Nahui Ollin necklace. This piece incorporates the symbol of the "Four Movements," a more complex notion that further emphasizes the importance of change and transformation in Aztec philosophy.
Metal: sterling silver.
Dimensions: about 3.5 x 2 cm (or 1.37 x 0.78 inches).
Length of the necklace: about 90 cm.
Manufacturing time: 5 business days.
