JEWELRY
INSPIRATION
These earrings are inspired by the leaf of the ginkgo biloba tree, a fascinating species considered to be the oldest known plant family. It is believed to have appeared over 270 million years ago—around 40 million years before the dinosaurs. Often referred to as a “living fossil,” the ginkgo has survived the ages with little change.
Sacred in Asia, particularly in Japan, the ginkgo biloba symbolizes longevity, permanence, love, hope, and the union of opposites. Its unique, fan-shaped leaf, split into two lobes and lacking a central vein, is instantly recognizable. In autumn, the foliage turns a radiant golden yellow, carpeting the ground in a breathtaking display of living gold—a sight as poetic as it is moving.
In Japanese culture, the ginkgo is omnipresent: it appears in kimono patterns, traditional hairstyles, and throughout artistic iconography. Since surviving the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the tree has taken on an even deeper meaning, becoming a powerful symbol of resilience and hope.
The earrings we offer feature two ginkgo leaves on each pair. One leaf is smooth and polished, reflecting light with pure brilliance; the other is engraved with fine recessed lines, evoking the delicate texture of the natural leaf. This subtle interplay between shadow and light, matte and shine, creates a refined visual contrast—a timeless and elegant aesthetic.
