Promicroceras ammonite, paleontology fossil necklace in sterling silver

The "Ammonite promicroceras" silver necklace pays homage to an extinct marine creature that once ruled the oceans. Today, it survives in fossil form, testifying to its ancient existence and the evolution of life on Earth. Its shells, similar to those of snails but much larger, feature a complex organization of chambers and internal walls. These structures not only served as shelter for the animal, but also helped maintain its balance and buoyancy, a marvel of adaptation to its environment.

The name "ammonite" comes from the characteristic spiral shape of their shell, reminiscent of the curled horns of rams. Pliny the Elder, in his work, called them "cornua Ammonis," in reference to the attributes of the Egyptian god Amun, whose horns symbolized strength and divine power.

Promicroceras, an extinct species of ammonite, is characterized by a round shape and an elegant spiral, dating from the Late Sinemurian period of the Early Jurassic. This silver pendant is a replica cast from a specimen found on a beach in Dorset, a site renowned for its paleontological richness and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The ammonite, with its spiral shape, embodies the cycle of life. It evokes infinity, symbolizing both the end and the beginning. Throughout the ages, it has captured the imagination of civilizations, inviting them to meditate on the continuity of nature and the mysterious passage of time. This fossil serves as a reminder of the immutable laws of the universe and the incessant cycles that govern existence.
