Oceanian shield, tribal earrings in sterling silver

These earrings embody an archaeological replica of a 19th-century shield originating from Papua New Guinea. They offer a captivating glimpse into the island art of the Pacific, particularly the Elema culture of the Gulf Province in Papua New Guinea.

Crafted from wood and adorned with vibrant pigments, this shield features striking geometric patterns, including rows of triangles and detailed depictions of symbolic eyes. Its rectangular shape, split at the top to allow for the passage of a spear or arrows, speaks to its defensive function while maintaining an elegant aesthetic.

This historical shield is now preserved at the prestigious Brooklyn Museum in the United States, showcasing its cultural and historical value. To learn more about its history, you can visit the Brooklyn Museum Collection website.

These earrings, faithful and enchanting reproductions of this archaeological piece, are both lightweight and easy to wear despite their impressive length. They allow you to elegantly and proudly wear a piece of Papua New Guinea's rich history and culture, while adding an exotic and artistic touch to your attire.

Metal: sterling silver.
