Forest cat, nature guardian earrings in silver, blue agate and green agate

Forest Cat is a tribute to the feline spirit — elusive, graceful, and utterly enchanting — whose supple, silent presence seems to embody the very soul of the untamed wilderness. Mysterious and independent, the cat holds a central place in legends around the world, silently watching over woods, rivers, and forgotten clearings.

In the Vosges mountains of France, a legend from Girmont speaks of a strange “tree-cat,” a silent guardian of the forest. Its gnarled trunk, shaped like a great sleeping feline, is said to protect the land and its creatures from human intrusion. In medieval manuscripts linked to the Arthurian cycle, one finds the Chapalu (or Capalu), a half-cat, half-demon being that may trace its roots to ancient Celtic beliefs. Often depicted as both fearsome and sacred, it stood as a powerful protector.

On the island of Corsica, a still-living legend tells of the ghjattuvolpe, or fox-cat — a clever and elusive creature seen as the guardian of remote forests. Long mistaken for an African wildcat, this mysterious feline is now recognized as a rare, endemic subspecies of forest cat.

In Norse mythology, cats — particularly the Norwegian forest cat — accompany the gods. Freyja, goddess of love, magic, and fertility, rides a chariot drawn by two massive cats. These felines embodied nature’s forces, protective beings at the heart of the boreal woods.

Our Forest Cat earrings are inspired by this deep-rooted folklore. Crafted in sterling silver, they take on the stylized shape of a seated cat, its silhouette graceful and poised. Its body is delicately pierced with a botanical motif of tiny leaves, evoking its organic bond with the forest.

Dangling from each earring is a faceted drop of blue or green agate, swaying like a dew drop suspended from a branch. The blue evokes water and sky; the green, sap and leaves — a harmony of elements drawn from the heart of the woods.

Wearing these earrings is like summoning the benevolent presence of an ancient feline spirit — a silent guardian of the vegetal world. It is an intimate expression of kinship with the wild and unseen forces of nature, woven of mystery, protection, and freedom.
