INSPIRATION
The "Hitomi" ring embodies the very essence of Japanese culture through its inspiring wave motifs. The sea, ever-present in island life in Japan, has long been a symbol of power, movement, and renewal. As a source of life and harmony, it reflects the calm strength and resilience found in the Japanese spirit. Infused with this symbolism, the Hitomi ring celebrates the inner strength needed to navigate the sometimes turbulent waters of life.
Its distinctive pattern, called Seigaiha or “blue ocean wave,” has adorned Japanese textiles, ceramics, and art objects for centuries. This infinite design of overlapping concentric circles creates the illusion of peaceful, rhythmic waves. It expresses wishes for peace, prosperity, and lasting happiness. Each ripple seems to carry the memory of ebb and flow, reminding us that everything in life is movement, balance, and renewal.
The name of the ring itself, Hitomi, meaning “eye” or “pupil” in Japanese, resonates deeply with its design. Its oxidized surface evokes the depth of a gaze contemplating the marine horizon. This poetic dimension strengthens the connection between humans and nature, between the observing eye and the reflecting sea.
Gifting the Hitomi ring is offering a symbol of calm and serenity, inner strength, balance, and good fortune. It is perfect for those who love the sea, Japanese culture, and the beauty of natural forms.
The Hitomi ring is also available in a narrower version called Hitomi Petite. You can also discover another sea-inspired ring in its wilder, more tempestuous version, called La Mer, representing the stormy, crashing waves.
