Shina, red sand bracelet in silver, leather and picture jasper

The Shina bracelet is built around a stunning round cabochon of picture jasper set in sterling silver. This stone displays a delicate sequence of lines in a color palette ranging from light sand to deep ochre, almost burgundy. These warm, mineral tones evoke the vast desert landscapes of the American Southwest.

The jasper reminds me of the striking vistas of Arches National Park in Utah, the shimmering layers of the Painted Desert stretching north of Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, and the spectacular formations of Bryce Canyon. Much like these red sand deserts, picture jasper reveals a natural stratification of colors—fluid layers that seem to swirl and dance, shaped by wind and time.

This stone tells its own version of Earth’s history. For many Indigenous peoples of North America, including the Navajo and Hopi, these desert regions were considered sacred, filled with powerful spiritual energy. Looking at the jasper’s patterns, one can easily understand why such landscapes were seen as inhabited by ancient spirits.

To showcase this natural tableau, the jasper is mounted in a minimalist and elegant setting that allows the stone to take center stage. It is attached to a soft, sandy-colored suede strap that wraps several times around the wrist. This enveloping design, both modern and organic, creates a subtle connection between the jewel, the skin, and the Earth.

The bracelet is made of suede—a very soft, supple, and comfortable type of leather. The strap is 0.12 in (0.3 cm) wide and about 1 mm thick, making it easy to wrap around the wrist. Its natural beige color complements the warm tones of the jasper. The leather strap measures 20.47 in (52 cm) in length. It also includes a 2.36 in (6 cm) sterling silver chain, allowing you to clasp it at the desired length. The total bracelet length is 24.41 in (62 cm). It’s adjustable and designed to fit both slender and wider wrists by choosing the most comfortable chain link.
