Shaman drum, Scandinavian Sami pendant in sterling silver

The Sami, or Sámi, are an indigenous people originating from a vast region covering northern Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula in Russia, known as Sápmi or Lapland.

The shamanic drum is central to Sami cosmology. Each Sami shaman maintained a close relationship with their drum, which they crafted themselves with great care. The symbols inscribed on the drum acted as a cognitive map to guide the shaman on their spiritual journey through the three levels of the universe.

The Sami drum is also a mythical representation of the world. At the center is the sun, around which the world is divided into three parts: the upper realm of the gods, the middle realm of humans, and the lower realm of the dead.

This silver pendant is an archaeological replica of a shamanic drum from the Lule Lappmark region in Sweden. At the center of the drum, the sun is depicted, surrounded by the goddess Ahkka, the moon, and other astral figures in the upper realm. The lower section of the drum is adorned with anthropomorphic and theriomorphic figures.

Each design on a Sami shamanic drum carries deep symbolism. It is the shaman’s duty to know the myths related to the origins of the universe, culture, and codes, and to interpret them during each session according to the seeker’s needs. The pendant represents a powerful spiritual and cultural symbol, honoring the traditions and wisdom of the Sami.

Crafted in silver, this pendant combines tradition and modernity, offering a refined aesthetic while respecting the cultural and spiritual motifs of the Sami. Each engraved detail has been executed with great precision and deep respect for traditional craftsmanship, making this pendant a true masterpiece and a tribute to the rich Sami culture.
