INSPIRATION
The “Imaginary World” ring is a custom creation inspired by the Otomi-style rings featured in our collection. Based on this traditional design, our client wished to reinterpret the motifs to include a wide variety of animals, all gathered on a single band. She also requested that the edges of the ring be given a wavy shape, softening the linear structure and enhancing the organic character of the piece.
The engraving that adorns this ring pays tribute to the ancestral art of the Otomi communities of northern Mexico. Known for their vibrant embroidery called tenangos, the Otomi people have, for centuries, used symbolic motifs to represent nature, spirits, and the mythological narratives of their culture. Originally embroidered on ceremonial textiles, these designs—featuring fantastical animals, radiant suns, and lush vegetation—were far more than decorative: they conveyed a rich cosmology, a worldview woven into every thread.
These representations reflect the deep identity of this ancient people, where every shape, every curve, every creature speaks to a collective memory and a sacred connection between humans, the Earth, and the invisible world.
Around the circumference of the ring, a vibrant world comes to life: swimming fish and whales, soaring birds, blooming flowers, peacocks, deer, and even a radiant sun. Each figure appears animated, as if it were part of a living story—both intimate and universal.
A personal inscription has also been engraved on the inside of the ring, making this piece even more unique: a true talisman infused with meaning, at the crossroads of art, culture, and imagination.
