Catrina, Mexican skull earrings in sterling silver

The Catrina earrings draw inspiration from the unique relationship Mexicans have with death and all the artistic and spiritual representations that stem from it, especially during the Day of the Dead, a popular and colorful celebration held in Mexico at the end of October and the beginning of November.
Catrina is one of the most iconic figures of Día de Muertos. She was imagined as a female skeleton elegantly dressed, wearing a large decorated hat, a symbol of refinement and social satire. The face is usually painted to resemble a skull, or sometimes adorned with floral motifs like the calavera. This figure is one of the most present in the streets and on decorated altars during the Day of the Dead, representing memory, humor, and beauty beyond death.

These silver earrings depict the head, or rather the skull, of Catrina. They take on the silhouette of a delicately crafted feminine skull. The skulls are engraved and adorned, following tradition, with cempasuchil flowers forming the eyes, solar symbols of life, light, and rebirth in Mexican culture. The rest of the face is enriched with petals, leaves, and floral details reminiscent of nature and fertility, adding a touch of grace and poetry.

Wearing these earrings is not only a way to honor the memory of the departed, but also to celebrate their lives in a joyful, colorful, and luminous way. They embody the spirit of festivity, freedom, and resilience that animates the Mexican people during the Day of the Dead, reminding us that even in death, there is beauty, color, and joy.
