Ipomoea, flower ring in sterling silver

This ring is engraved with a frieze inspired by the ipomoea flower, a delicate and lively plant closely linked to the cycle of the day. The ipomoea opens in the morning with the light and closes in the evening as the day fades. This daily movement gave it the name “morning glory”. It is also known as volubilis, a name that reflects its climbing nature and its natural reach toward the light.

The ipomoea is related to bindweed and, like it, grows by clinging and winding around various supports. It climbs, moves forward and finds its path until it can unfold its large trumpet-shaped flowers, often in soft or vibrant colors, sometimes with gentle gradients, as well as its elegant heart-shaped leaves. This way of growing, flexible yet determined, evokes connection, attachment and movement.

In the language of flowers, the ipomoea symbolizes spontaneous friendship, unpredictable impulses of the heart, fleeting attachments and one-day loves. A flower of the present moment, it evokes sudden encounters, intense but passing emotions, and the beauty of what exists without a promise of duration. Its brief opening recalls the fragility of feelings, as well as their sincerity.

The ipomoea is the birth flower associated with the month of September. It is linked to the transition between summer and autumn, a time of change, movement and transformation, when one learns to appreciate what is lived here and now.
