The “Dance of the Hares” ring is a band engraved with a frieze of wild rabbits leaping with their bodies fully stretched, surrounded by stars, as if they were dancing in an endless circle across the night sky. Each rabbit bears spiral motifs, expressing its vitality and energy, as well as a tattooed star that forever links this nocturnal creature to the heavens.
The continuous movement of the animals following one another evokes the rhythm of nature, the cycles of life, and the passage of time. This celestial dance seems to unfold beyond the ordinary world, in a realm where seasons, stars, and living beings move together in perfect harmony.
In the astronomy inherited from ancient Greece, a constellation known as Lepus, the Hare, lies beneath the feet of Orion the Hunter. Its position in the sky has often inspired the image of an eternal chase between the hunter, his dogs, and the swift hare trying to escape them. For centuries, this celestial scene has captured the imagination of skywatchers and made the hare a symbol of liveliness, agility, and freedom.
Thanks to its speed, vigilance, and ability to disappear into tall grasses, the hare has long been associated with instinctive intelligence, adaptability, and survival. Its appearance in fields at sunrise or sunset has also given it a mysterious, almost magical dimension.
In many European traditions, the hare is closely connected to the moon. Its largely nocturnal habits, silent movements, and extraordinary fertility have made it a symbol of renewal, fertility, and rebirth. Some legends even tell that the shapes visible on the surface of the moon represent a celestial hare watching over the world from among the stars.
The Celtic peoples also viewed the hare as an animal connected to the Otherworld, capable of moving between visible and invisible realms. Swift and elusive, it became a guide to mysteries, a messenger of intuition, and a symbol of transformation.
In several Asian traditions, the Moon Hare is also an important figure. It lives upon the moon and accompanies the celestial bodies on their journey across the sky. This recurring presence of the hare in stories linked to the stars and the moon reinforces its image as a celestial animal, guardian of natural rhythms and the cycles of time.
Through its bounding energy, wild freedom, and ancient connection to the night sky, the hare reminds us of the importance of following our own path, remaining attentive to the signs of the world, and preserving our sense of wonder in the face of nature’s mysteries.
