Mayan cardinal points, Mexican glyph earrings (north-south-east–west) in silver

These earrings are a set representing the cardinal points in Mayan glyphs, a complex and symbolic writing system used by this ancient Mexican civilization.

There are four of them, each adorned with a distinct Mayan glyph that evokes one of the four cardinal directions. You can interchange them according to your desires, creating a variety of combinations and associations that reflect your own interpretation of these ancient symbols.

These earrings are an evocation of the writing of the Mayans of Mexico, in the form of glyphs, and of the deep symbolism of the cardinal points in this pre-Hispanic culture. Each glyph embodies a particular meaning, going well beyond simple geographical direction.

The east or "Lak’in": among the Mayans, the east is associated with the color red, a symbol of vitality and vitality. It is the most important direction because it is where the sun rises, evoking the sun god and life itself. The east is also linked to the planet Venus, represented by its symbol of the morning star, which embodies beauty, fertility, and rebirth.

The west or "Chik’in": the west is associated with the color black, symbolizing night, death, and the end of things. It is the point of the sunset, marking the transition between life and death, between day and night. The west is also the symbol of the realm of the dead, where the souls of the deceased go after their time on earth.

The south or "Nojol": the Mayans associate it with the color yellow, a bright hue that evokes the sunlight, warmth, and vitality. This direction is also linked to ripe corn, an essential source of food and life for the Mayans, as well as the spotted coat of the jaguar, a symbol of strength and power in Mayan culture. The south is thus perceived as a point where life is most abundant, where the sun is strongest, and where nature is most generous.

The north or "Xaman": it symbolizes purity and royalty. It is the point farthest from the sun, where darkness is the deepest and light is the weakest. It is also where the North Star is located, a still star that guides travelers and merchants in their navigation. The north is therefore associated with wisdom, knowledge, and direction, and is often considered as a reference point for the Mayans in their orientation and navigation.

They will certainly also be a starting point for conversation for their unique pattern.
