This ring features an oval bezel engraved with XC IC NIKA, a symbol from the Christian tradition. It is a christogram, meaning a monogram or a combination of Greek or Latin letters forming an abbreviation of the name of Jesus Christ. The inscription XC IC NIKA means “Jesus Christ conquers” or “Jesus Christ is victorious”.
This christogram appeared and spread mainly between the 4th and 7th centuries AD within Byzantine Christianity. It is closely linked to the Byzantine and Orthodox traditions, where it holds a central place in sacred art. This Christian symbol expresses the victory of Christ over sin, evil and death, as well as the hope of resurrection and eternal life.
XC IC NIKA can be found in Byzantine art on many religious remains and Orthodox liturgical objects, such as crosses, icons, mosaics, liturgical seals and even tombstones. It is often associated with the cross, reinforcing its message of faith, protection and spiritual triumph.
In detail, the Greek letters are divided into four parts to occupy each space between the arms of the cross. The last word is intentionally divided to fit this sacred and balanced composition. We therefore find:
Metal: sterling silver (925).
