Kiro Kiro aboriginal ritual, Australian rock art necklace in sterling silver

This necklace is the reproduction of a rock painting made by the Australian Aborigines from the region of Kimberley.

It is part of a collection of paintings referred to as the "Gwion Gwion rock Paintings". This Aboriginal art from Australia is also known as Kiro Kiro, Kujon or Bradshaw.

They would date from 10,000 years BC according to the study of the natural pigments used for painting. But archaeologists have been arguing since their discovery in 1891 to establish its age.

Aboriginal Kiro Kiro rock art typically depicts anthropomorphic figures accompanied by ritual paraphernalia such as bags, pom poms and stylized headdresses.

In many cases, these paintings represent rituals or initiation rites or shamanic ceremonies.

In this case, we have two human figures who seem to dance and lift up a cup from which a plant or blood spurts. There is also a bird flying around the figures and the cup. The bird seems to lose feathers during its flight. This cave painting corresponds to the so-called Sash style.

We could evoke a dancing ritual, linked to fertility by the presence of plants and/or blood. In many cultures, blood is considered a gift given to the gods to fertilize the earth. You can also see a ceremony of shamans who can transform themselves into birds thanks to their dances and elixirs. This idea can be supported by the presence of leaves which would be that of eucalyptus used as a psychoactive drug.

Metal: sterling silver.

Dimensions: about 3cm x 3.6cm (or 1.18inches x 1.41 inches).

Length of the tie: about 90 cm.
