The unakite is from the alterated granite family. It is composed of orthoclase which gives this pink color, of epidote giving hime the green color and of colorless quartz. The color goes from lime green to dark green. It also shows red and pink stains. Its color can vary a lot in terms of hues and shapes due to its irregular crystals.
Do not mix epidosites with epidote that is sometimes sold as unakite. The absence of quartz is what makes the difference between them. The epidote does not show (or very scarcely) pink stains due to the feldspath.
The name of this stone comes from the mountain range called Unaka Range in North Carolina, USA.
