INSPIRATION
Rabbit Totem is a pendant shaped like a rabbit in full motion, frozen in the instant of its impulse, as if ready to leap into a wild race. Its body is openworked with a stem adorned with small leaves, a subtle yet powerful reminder of its intimate connection with vegetation and the forces of nature. At its feet sits a black onyx cabochon, a deep and mysterious stone that grounds the composition.
In Native American traditions, the animal totem is a guide, a protective spirit derived from nature. Among the Ojibwe, a central figure in mythology, Nanabozho — a trickster spirit and cultural hero — often takes the form of a rabbit or hare, nicknamed the “Great Rabbit.” Carrier of foundational stories, he teaches through his cunning and adventures the art of living in harmony with the world.
As a totem animal, the rabbit embodies fertility, abundance, and spontaneity. Its swiftness invites one to seize opportunities as they arise, while its cautious nature reminds of the dangers of excessive timidity that can hinder vital momentum. An ambivalent symbol, it encourages overcoming fear to access vitality and creativity.
The black onyx set in this pendant further enhances its spiritual dimension. Considered by North American Indigenous peoples as a protective stone, it absorbs negative energies and provides stability and strength in adversity. It serves as a solid anchor, balancing the lively and sometimes elusive energy of the rabbit.
This piece is thus both a talisman and a story, a union between the speed and lightness of the animal, the protective strength of the stone, and the wisdom of Native American traditions.
